We all know how important it is to live a healthy lifestyle. For some of us, it is difficult to get started on a road to healthy living and for others, it is difficult to maintain that healthy momentum.
Here are 5 Steps to help you on that path:
- Start Moving
The first step is to just start moving. Find activities you enjoy and especially ones that you can do with family and friends. While in pursuit of common goals, whether it’s walking around the block, engaging in sports, or taking a or hip-hop class, enjoying these activities with others is a sure way to stay encouraged, committed, and have fun doing it.
- Make a Commitment
It takes at least a 30 days for a commitment to become a good habit. Whether it’s a healthier diet or a new fitness program, be tenacious and stick with your decision to proceed forward toward a healthier lifestyle. After one short month that healthy choice becomes a way of life.
- Set Realistic Goals
It is really important that you avoid doing too much right away. An extreme change in lifestyle can set you up for failure. Take baby steps. If you are starting a fitness program after some time away, start slowly and listen to your body while gradually increasing the intensity of your workouts. Make sure to warm up before a workout and cool down after. Have a variety of activities that don’t overwork the same muscles. If you have joined a gym, consider hiring a trainer for at least one session who can help you begin a routine that is best for your fitness level.
- Keep a Journal
Track your progress as you move forward in the weeks and months ahead. By journaling your food intake and workout progress, you will be much more conscientious of your time spent being active and the types and quality of food you are eating. There are several apps available to help you with this, making it so easy to track everything.
- Reward Yourself
You set a goal and you achieved it so don’t forget to reward yourself. Go to a movie, take a walk on the beach or get a relaxing massage as a way to engage in something other than your daily routine. Celebrate your achievement. You deserve it.
A healthier lifestyle is something that is quite easy to achieve. Remember to fit in at least 20 – 30 minutes of activity a day and allow yourself the time you need to get a good night’s sleep. Need suggestions on achieving a good night sleep? Visit here.
